In common with previous years Erith will not be sending our Christmas cards thisyear but will instead be making a donation to the Demelza House Children'sHospice. The whole Erith team would like to wish all visitors to our website a very happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year. 19 November | Erith staff take offices at the IDE Steve Jack was today voted in as Vice President of the Institute of Demolition Steve who has been working at the Bradwell Power Station demolition project since July remarked "I'm very honoured that the membership have trusted me with this role." Stuart is Erith's Associate Director with responsibility for Health and Safety and joins Managing Director David Darsey on the Council of Management. David who is also a Fellow of the Institute commented "I'm proud that despite the busy year we've had our staff have continued to develop their careers and are taking part in the wider industry." 17 November | Swanton Consulting off and running
Swanton Consulting, The Erith Group's Structural Engineers has had a hugelysuccessful first 3 months. Under the leadership of Simon Simpson a Chartered Engineer, Swanton has already been assisting the company's demolition teams across London providing advice on temporary works and other engineering requirements. Simon commented "We're looking forward to assisting clients with major projects from inception through to handover. We believe that engaging with clients at pre-construction stage we can add value to developments." 05 November 2010 | Fireworks in Amsterdam Fireworks were going off in Amsterdam as The Erith Group had a hugely successful night at the Awards for the Lafarge Cement Works and Central London projects in the Industrial Demolition andUrban/Confined Space categories respectively were followed by the prestigious Demolition Contractor of the Year Award. In addition the judges awarded Erith a Highly Commended in the Demolition Training category. Covering over 34 Hectares and involving over 70 structures the Lafarge Cement Works Project tested Erith's skills across the spectrum of demolition techniques including; Explosive Demolition, Remote Demolition, Dismantling, Asbestos Removal. The close proximity of neighbours including businesses, schools and The Central London project presented a very different set of challenges, located in London's Regent Street the site was passed by approximately 250,000 pedestrians and tens of thousands of cars every day requiring a detailed traffic management plan from the outset. In addition to demolition the contract involved retaining the Grade 1 listed facade, enabling works, underpinning and extensive asbestos removal. 3d computer visualisiation video was used to plan the project and also to enable the client and other stakeholders to understand our approach and visualise the sequencing. These successes as well as our approach to training and Health and Safety, innovation, customer care and other successful projects such as Pfizer and Blackfriars Station assisted us in proving that we deserved the Demolition Contractor of the Year Award as well. The judging panel was made up of some of the leading figures in the world of demolition and Erith faced stiff opposition from some of the world's leading demolition companies across 3 continents. The four successful awards represented all the categories in which we had entered and been nominated. The judges commented that Erith had: "By far the best submission, notable for the high level of client satisfaction. Their excellent early interaction and communication with clients made the jobs go exceptionally well." Erith's Managing Director, David Darsey commented "This is just reward for a hard year in which Erith has completed some of the most important contracts in the country and demonstrates the strength and flexibility of the Erith Team." 14 October 2010 | Erith Haulage gains FORS accreditation

01 October 2010 | Erith receives the ARCA Gold Award for Training For the third year running Erith have been awarded the ARCA Gold Award forTraining. Achievement of this award is based on a review of Training procedures as well as the percentage of turnover spent on Training by the Company. 30 September 2010 | Local MP visits Bradwell demolition project. The MP for Maldon, John Whittingdale (pictured) visited the Erith demolition project at Bradwell Power Station today. Whilst at the site he met the Project Manager, Steve Jack and had a tour of thesite. The contract involves the demolition of two turbine halls, offices and workshops and is due to last 12 months.
20 September 2010 | Erith Help local veterans football team Veterans Football team Boroughs Park Rovers has received a boost from The Erith Group. The company has sponsored the team's new kit for the 2010/11 season. The team plays in the Southend Borough Combination Veterans League and is based at Great Wakering only a few miles from our current major demolition project at Bradwell Power Station. Player Coach, Steve Jack said "We like to think we're competitive but play mainly for enjoyment and Erith's help is therefore greatly appreciated." 10 September 2010 | Erith explains its Cafe Royal demolition to the European Demolition Association.
Erith's Managing Director David Darsey (also President of the NFDC) gave a presentation to the EDA on our demolition of the Cafe Royal in London's Regent Street. David was assisted by Stuart Accleton who has been heaviliy involved in the Health and Safety Management of the project as the Company's Health and Safety Associate Director. This unique project has been nominated for the Urban Demolition Project of the Year Award at the World Demolition Awards to be held in Amsterdam in November. View the entire presentation at EDA Cafe Royal Presentation. 09 September 2010 | Erith start work in 2 new areas for Circle Anglia Erith has recently been awarded asbestos removal contracts with the Circle Anglia Group. We now add Mole Valley Housing Association in Surrey and Merton Priory Homes in the Merton and Croydon areas to our existing work for Wherry Housing Association, South Anglia Housing Association and Roddens Housing Association. Tony Darsey Managing Director of Erith's Asbestsos Division said "Working in the social housing environment presents specific challenges and this demonstrates that Erith is successfully meeting those challenges". 03 September 2010 | World Demolition Awards Shortlist Announced Erith has been shortlisted in 4 categories for the World Demolition Awards to beheld on 5th November 2010 namely:
This represents our success in projects as diverse as the Site Clearance and Demolition of The Northfleet Cement Works, various demolition and decommissioning projects at Pfizers in Sandwich and the demolition, facade retention and asbestos removal at the Cafe Royal in London's Regent Street.

09 August 2010 | Erith Helps Local Trust Fund Once again, The Erith Group is proud to support local causes and David Darsey has donated £1000.00 to the Ruby Hope Fundraising Trust on behalf of the Company. Ruby will be undergoing major surgery in America, to be followed up with long sessions of Physiotherapy. Ruby's mum, Paula, is delighted with the donation and is overwhelmed at the generosity of others. On behalf of all members of staff, Erith wishes Ruby the very best of luck for her treatment and beyond. 04 August 2010 | Erith acquire former Costain's Plant Yard at Erith The Erith Group has recently purchased Costain's former 6.5 acre plant and marine site at Manor Road, Erith as part of the company's ongoing growth. and development. The site is already being used for heavy plant and vehicle logistics with plans being drawn up to develop the wharf facility and a recycling operation. 30 July 2010 | Safety 24:7 - Over the last month Erith has begun a behavioural Serhan Cemal a recent starter at Erith who attended a recent session remarked "I work in Head Office and always treated Health and Safety as something that only affects those on-site but this really made me re-think". The money will go towards a nuber of worthy causes: The Peter Pan Nursery, Lilly Foundation, BHF and NFDC charities. 12 July 2010 | Erith sign up to "Halving Waste to Landfill" - Erith have signed a commitment as part of the construction industry to halve the amount of waste sent Erith's Environmental Manager, Liz Winter believes that this is an important step for the industry, "Erith are already delivering environmental improvements on each and every project, but this demonstrates that we are working as part of the industry to deliver real environmental benefits." 08 July 2010 | Erith announced as preferred bidder for a major contract at Bradwell Power Station - Erith are the preferred bidder for the demolition of the Turbine Hall at Bradwell Power Station in Essex. This contract builds on previous experience of working in and around power stations such as Townhill in Scotland and Broomgrove in Kent. 03 July 2010 | Erith help local Pre-School - Last night Erith made a £1,000 donation to the Peter Pan Pre-School to enable them to build an outdoor play area Sue Ralph, Pre-School Principal said “Its absolutely wonderful that we have received such a huge donation which has enabled us to complete the outdoor activity area. In the 25 years we have never been helped in this way. A a big thank you to Erith from the staff but above all from 40 children that will get to benefit from this great new facility" David Darsey MD of Erith added, "Erith are proud to continue supporting worthy causes in our local community especially in the current economic climate. To see the children benefit from this donation was overwhelming." 02 July 2010 | Erith secure 2nd Safety Award at Cafe Royal - Erith have been awarded the MACE Sub-contractor Safety Award for June as a result of work at the Cafe Royal, Regent Street. We believe this is the first time that a company has received this award twice in consecutive months. Andy Dyson, Erith's Project Manager commented, "This reflects a huge effort by the entire team at Erith." 01 July 2010 | Erith Re-Launch - Erith held a party last night to announce their new branding at the prestigious Royal Horseguards Hotel. Cocktails were named after major projects such as Café Royal and Lafarge and major industry figures were hosted by Chairman Steve Darsey, Directors and key staff. Steve Darsey commented “This event is about Erith showing the industry that we are preparing for the future and can provide clients with the quality of service they want”. 27 June 2010 | Northfleet Demolition on BBC’s Top Gear - The demolition of Kent’s largest chimneys had a starring role in last night’s Top Gear as Richard Hammond watched them brought down on top of the “Reasonably Priced Car” the Chevrolet Lacetti.
May 2010 | Erith receive MACE award for Café Royal Project - Erith has been awarded MACE’s monthly Trade Contractor of the Month Award for its prestigious demolition contract at the Café Royal in Regent Street. Andrew Farquharson, Erith’s Project Director remarked “this reflects the hard work that the whole team has put into the project over the last few months.” May 2010 | Erith awarded 8 British Safety Council International Safety Awards - Erith has been awarded 8 International Safety Awards from the British Safety Council (BSC). It is the fifth consecutive year that we have received these prestigious awards and the number of awards received reflects the growing business and changing emphasis on Safety within construction. Health and Safety, Associate Director Stuart Accleton commented “These awards demonstrate the importance that staff at all levels place on Health and Safety at Erith”. This year two of the awards were for projects at the Pfizer site in Sandwich and in conjunction with Erith’s approach to project management we were keen to involve the client team in planning the project. This approach was shared by Pfizer and the attached article is testament to the pride that the client feels about these awards.
